15 Years of Dreams from the Red Chamber

Composed by Wang Li Ping (王立平), the Dream of the Red Chamber suite was the soundtrack of the 1987 CCTV drama series of the same name. The premiere of the concert format in 1999 by City Chinese Orchestra (CCO) sparked worldwide interest, with more than 100 concerts staged by orchestras around the world. On the 15th anniversary of the first performance, CCO is honoured to stage the Dream of the Red Chamber again.

Join National First Grade performer Zhang Xiao Tang, Tansea (张晓棠), as she dazzles you with the timeless classics from the suite. Zhang became the first ever guest singer and guzheng player at the Wiener Musikverein in Vienna in 2013. As one of the top five champions of CCTV’s “Avenue of Stars” (星光大道), Zhang astounded audiences in her rendition of Longing in Vain (枉凝眉).

Hear composer Wang Li Ping share his thoughts regarding his work during the concert’s live interview segment, hosted by Woo Mun Ngan from Lianhe Zaobao.
