After four years of filming, CCTV broadcasted a dramatised rendition of the favourite Chinese classic, Dream of the Red Chamber. The soundtrack for the drama serial – hailed as the classic of television production music – was composed by Mr Wang Li Ping. In 1995, the Dream of the Red Chamber Music was selected as one of the 20th century’s representative works in Chinese classical music. On 29 May 1999, City Chinese Orchestra performed the world premier of the Dream of the Red Chamber concert suite. Since then, the well-loved suite has been performed by many orchestras worldwide.

This concert DVD was recorded during City Chinese Orchestra’s performance tour to China in June 2007, at the Renmin University of China, Mingde Hall, in Beijing.
